Abstract
A federally funded project by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP)and State Justice Institute (SJI) for the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges (NCJFCJ) this factually and procedurally realistic video-based courtroom simulation provides training into the handling of evidentiary issues based on current statutory and case law on the issue of parental rights termination. There is a simulated courtroom, that is used to rule on the admissibility of evidence and the conduct of the proceedings in the case of Bonnie and Clyde Bowman and the termination of their parental rights with their son Leonard. The 2-hour interactive court proceeding will present 42 questions on evidentiary issues. The case offers supportive documents such as case summary and record, police reports, and witness statements, as well as exhibits and case participants. Some of the evidentiary issues encountered in the termination of the parental rights trial include: judicial notice, expert and lay opinion, authentication of documents, hearsay, impeachment, character evidence, attorney-client and work product privileges.
