RESULTS OF A BIOGRAPHICAL STUDY OF A SAMPLE OF 230 FEMALE INMATES IN THE PRISON OF NAPLES, ITALY.
Abstract
THE STUDY CORRELATES SOME OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE INMATES WITH TYPES OF CRIMES AND RECIDIVISM. DATA WERE CLASSIFIED ACCORDING TO AGE, PLACE OF BIRTH, PLACE OF RESIDENCE, LITERACY LEVEL, MARITAL FACTORS AND ELABORATED STATISTICALLY. THE RESULTS CONFIRM THE HYPOTHESIS THAT DELINQUENCY IS MORE FREQUENT IN LARGE URBAN CENTRES, WHILE IT TENDS TO BE LESS IN SMALL INDUSTRIAL TOWNS. IN COMPARISON WITH MALE CRIMINALITY, AGE SEEMS TO PLAY A LESS IMPORTANT ROLE THAN THE MORE SIGNIFICANT DISTRIBTUION OF AGE GROUPS ACCORDING TO TYPES OF CRIME IS NOTICED AMONG FEMALE OFFENDERS. THE RESULTS ALSO INDICATE A SMALL NUMBER OF MARRIED WOMEN AND WIDOWS AMONG THE SAMPLE, THE PREVALENCE OF SUBJECTS WITH LOW EDUCATIONAL LEVEL AND THE ABSENCE OF WOMEN WITH REGULAR EMPLOYMENT. --IN ITALIAN
