Intergovernmental organizations active in the field of international drug control were invited to submit reports to the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs by January 31, 1992.
Abstract
As of March 6, 1992, reports had been received from the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Commission of European Communities, the Council of Europe, the Customs Cooperation Council, the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), and the Organization of American States (OAS). ASEAN cooperation in the field of narcotics is pursued under the auspices of the ASEAN Senior Officials on Drugs, a body charged with formulating cooperative activities and implementing ASEAN drug control projects. The European Community has continued to implement the 1988 United Nations Convention Against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances by particularly focusing on money laundering, drug monitoring and control, and information exchange. The Council of Europe is concerned not only with drug trafficking, but also with education on health and drug use. The Enforcement Subdirectorate of the Customs Cooperation Council has the responsibility for drug-related customs enforcement initiatives worldwide. INTERPOL continues to support worthwhile initiatives dealing with the demand for and the production of drugs. The Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission is comprised of 22 OAS Member States and has the objective of eliminating illicit drug trafficking and drug abuse.
