LESSON PLANS FOR A COURSE DESIGNED TO DEVELOP VETERAN POLICE OFFICERS' FIREARMS KNOWLEDGE, SHOOTING SKILLS, TACTICAL JUDGEMENT, AND DECISION MAKING PROCESS.
Abstract
THE COURSE IS DESIGNED TO ASSIST DEPARTMENTS IN UPGRADING THEIR PERSONNEL IN THE LEGAL, MORAL AND ETHICAL ASPECTS OF USE OF DEADLY FORCE, LEADERSHIP ABILITY IN TACTICAL SITUATIONS INVOLVING MULTIPLE TARGETS, SHOOTING FROM VARIED FORMS OF COVER, AND NIGHT SHOOTING. INSTRUCTION WILL ALSO INCLUDE WEAPONS SAFETY ON AND OFF DUTY, PERFORMANCE POTENTIAL OF COMMON LAW ENFORCEMENT WEAPONS AND AMMUNITION, OBJECTIVES IN CARE AND CLEANING, AS WELL AS STATUTORY PROVISIONS AND COURT CASES RELATIVE TO USE OF DEADLY FORCE. THE COURSE IS STRUCTURED TO FILL THE VOID BETWEEN BASIC AND FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR TRAINING AND TO SATISFY ANTICIPATED FUTURE LEGISLATIVE REQUIREMENTS FOR FIREARMS TRAINING FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL.
