For the planning and design of a police facility to be successful the project manager from the police agency and the consultant need to establish a close working relationship based on mutual understanding and clear expectations.
Abstract
Police officials rarely are involved in more than one such project in their lifetimes and should view the planning process as a chance to review objectively the way their departments operate. They should help plan a facility that will last 15 to 20 years without significant changes. During the programming phase they should help analyze the physical requirements and the details of operations, maintenance, management, budget, and security. A police programming and design consultant should be an active participant on the planning team and should have continuous interaction with the project manager. The completed program will be a working document that will form the basis for a successful design project.
