SEVERAL INDICATORS ARE USED IN THIS STUDY TO MEASURE AND COMPARE THE ADMINISTRATIVE EFFICIENCY OF FELONY COURTS IN SELECTED MAJOR CITIES.
Abstract
STATISTICAL DATA AND TABLES ARE PROVIDED FOR EACH OF THE INDICATORS. THE FOLLOWING ITEMS OF DATA WERE USED AS INDICATORS - THE AMOUNT OF TIME TAKEN TO DISPOSE OF CRIMINAL CASES, THE EXTENT TO WHICH THOSE CONVICTED HAD ENTERED PLEAS OF GUILTY, THE PERCENTAGE OF JAIL PRISONERS AWAITING TRIAL, THE AMOUNT OF TIME PRISONERS SPEND AWAITING TRIAL, THE BACKLOG OF CRIMINAL CASES, THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF CASES DISPOSED OF PER JUDGE, AND THE EXTENT TO WHICH PROBATION IS USED AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO IMPRISONMENT.
