USE IS MADE OF THE SERVICES OF AN ATTORNEY AND THE PRIVATE BAR BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.
Abstract
THIS PROJECT EMPLOYED LEGAL SKILLS TO REDUCE POLICECOMMUNITY HOSTILITY. THE LAWYERS' COMMITTEE FOR CIVIL RIGHTS UNDER LAW HAS PROVIDED TO THE OAKLAND POLICE DEPARTMENT THE SERVICES OF AN ATTORNEY AS THE PROJECT DIRECTOR. HE HAS SERVED UNDER THIS GRANT FOR THREE DAYS EACH WEEK SINCE JUNE 15, 1969, AS STAFF ASSISTANT TO THE CHIEF OF POLICE. THE LEGAL SKILLS PROVIDED UNDER THIS GRANT HAVE BEEN THOSE OF THE PROJECT DIRECTOR, AS OFFERED DIRECTLY TO THE CHIEF, AND THOSE OF THE PRIVATE BAR, AS OFFERED THROUGH THE OAKLAND LAWYERS' COMMITTEE TO THE PROJECT DIRECTOR AND THE CHIEF OF POLICE.
