THIS STUDY EVALUATES A CORRECTIONAL PROGRAM IN MODENA, ITALY, IN WHICH NON-INSTITUTIONAL TREATMENT IS PROVIDED AFTER COMPLETION OF THE SENTENCE.
Abstract
UNDER PROVISIONS OF THE THE ITALIAN CRIMINAL CODE, HABITUAL AND PROFESSIONAL OFFENDERS MAY BE SUBJECTED BY THE COURT TO FURTHER DETENTION AT THE TERMINATION OF REGULAR SENTENCES UNDER PROVISIONS RELATING TO SOCIAL DANGEROUSNESS. THE ARTICLE ALSO DESCRIBES AND EVALUATES A PROGRAM OF NON-INSTITUTIONAL TREATMENT CONDUCTED IN THE SAME AREA OF ITALY WHICH INCLUDES THE ESTABLISHMENT OF GROUPS OF INMATES ON TEMPORARY RELEASE IN ORDER TO TAKE EMPLOYMENT IN THE COMMUNITY OR IN HOLIDAY CAMPS. THE AUTHOR CONCLUDES THAT THE LATTER TYPE OF PROGRAM PROVIDES VALUABLE INSIGHTS FOR APPLYING THE NEW ITALIAN CORRECTIONAL REGULATIONS WHICH MAKE PROVISION FOR ALTERNATIVES TO IMPRISONMENT. --IN ITALIAN.
