COLOR TEMPERATURE REFERS TO THE COLOR QUALITY OF LIGHT SOURCES USED IN MAKING COLOR PHOTOGRAPHS.
Abstract
THE COLOR QUALITY OF LIGHT FROM THE SUN VARIES WITH THE TIME OF DAY. IT HAS MUCH MORE ORANGE IN IT AT SUNSET AND SUNRISE THAN IT DOES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY, WHEN IT IS BLUISH. TUNGSTEN INCANDESCENT LIGHTING, IN CONTRAST, APPEARS TO BE YELLOW. WHILE IN NORMAL DAILY OPERATIONS THE BRAIN ADJUSTS VISUAL PERCEPTIONS TO PREVENT US FROM NOTICING MANY SUBTLE CHANGES. COLOR PHOTOGRAPHS OFTEN SEEM TOO RED OR TOO BLUE WHEN THEY ARE ACTUALLY TRUE REPRODUCTIONS. KEEPING THIS IN MIND, THE USE OF FILTERS OF KNOWN CHARACTERISTICS IS INDICATED TO RECTIFY THESE PHOTOGRAPHS TAKEN UNDER DIFFERENT LIGHTING CONDITIONS.
