In this study shoplifting behavior among nonmetropolitan high school youth is examined. Because almost all of the prior studies are based on records of store-apprehended shoplifters, it was deemed important to utilize a self-report methodology.
Abstract
Descriptive patterns of sex, age, social class, frequency, and value of items taken are presented. Hypotheses concerning deviant vulnerability, labeling, and socialization were supported by the data analysis. More research is needed to add to our understanding of this prevalent form of deviant behavior. (Author abstract)
