Based on statistics gathered by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) over the past 11 years, it is apparent that drug-related bombings have increased by 442 percent, while the number of times that officers have recovered drugs and explosives during a search has increased 296 percent.
Abstract
Information gathered by ATF, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the United States Postal Service (USPS) was used to analyze explosive incidents by category, State, property losses, deaths and injuries, target, type of container, and type of filler. The report also examines incidents of stolen explosives and recoveries. A third section describes significant ATF explosives investigations in 1988. A directory of ATF offices is provided. 19 tables.
