This manual is directed to police and other public-sector employees in Queensland, Australia and explains what to do if they become aware of serious misconduct occurring in the workplace.
Abstract
The instructions explain what a whistleblower is, what to do before blowing the whistle, how whistleblowers should protect themselves, what can happen after they blow the whistle, the rights of whistleblowers under the law, and where to find support. The law requires members of the Queensland Police Service to report a reasonable suspicion of police misconduct to the Commissioner and the Criminal Justice Commission. Other public officials are also expected to report suspected official misconduct to the Criminal Justice Commission. How, where, and what the individual discloses determines whether any whistleblowers protection law applies to the disclosure. The manual explains how to prepare the disclosure, the agencies able and unable to receive a public interest disclosure under the whistleblower protection law, the best methods of blowing the whistle, the organizational management of a public interest disclosure, managing the pressures of whistleblowing, and sources of assistance and support. 22 references
