This report summarizes the inmate assaults, escape attempts, and other extraordinary incidents that occurred in Kentucky correctional institutions in 1985.
Abstract
Data came from the reporting forms prepared by each institution. The analysis does not account for possible underreporting, however. The larger maximum-security and medium-security institutions experienced more incidents than other facilities. The majority of incidents in the minimum-security facilities involved attempted escapes, escapes, and apprehensions of escapees. A total of 742 extraordinary occurrences took place during the year. These included deaths, escapes, assaults on staff, inmate assaults, medical incidents involving serious injury, the use of force by staff, and miscellaneous incidents. Figures, data tables, and discussions of each type of incident and characteristics of incidents at each facility.
