Annotation

This report presents data on Washington State's population of adult corrections facilities; characteristics of residents, facilities, and work release; admissions to facilities; releases from facilities; and custody distributions of residents within facilities for fiscal year 2005 (as of March 31, 2005).

Abstract

The average daily population and the actual capacity are presented for each correctional facility for each month, from July 2004 through March 2005. As of March 31, 2005, the average daily population in "major" adult correctional facilities was 13,450, residing in facilities with a capacity for 12,029 inmates. The average daily population for "minor" facilities was 2,299, residing in facilities with a capacity for 2,359. The average daily population for female inmates in major institutions was 542 as of March 31, 2005, residing in facilities with a capacity for 466 female inmates. For minor institutions, the average daily population for female residents was 732 in facilities with a capacity for 771 female residents. Tables that display data on the characteristics of residents, facilities, and work release indicate number of residents by race and Hispanic origin, military service, age, and sex, along with offense by location, violent crime convictions, and the distribution of all inmates' location by risk management type. Tables pertinent to admissions to facilities present comparisons of admissions and releases by months and admissions by month, type of admission, and sex; by type of admission and county of conviction; by age at admission, race, Hispanic origin, and sex; by county of conviction, race, and Hispanic origin; and by offense and type of admission. Release data are presented by month, type of release, and sex; by type of release, race, and Hispanic origin; and by release type by length of stay. Data on length of stay are shown by special sentence and by offense. Seven tables show custody distributions within facilities by inmate characteristics.
