Many jurisdictions are adopting fast-track construction projects in order to save time, if not to save money.
Abstract
Fast-track construction phases the bid packages and uses pre-engineered systems and precast modules. A successful corrections project must recognize the role of design and management in controlling costs, bolstering security, and ensuring quality. Project architects and engineers evaluate prospective systems and make recommendations to owners regarding which methods and systems best balance the jurisdiction's needs in terms of cost, security, and quality. Shortening the design phase and eliminating essential reviews may cause problems during the construction phase and consequently drive up costs and add months to the schedule. This is why fast-track construction can minimize construction time while allowing enough design time to ensure proper coordination and review.
