This study investigated the factorial validity of the Millon Adolescent Clinical Inventory in a sample of 250 adolescent offenders.
Abstract
The Millon Adolescent Clinical Inventory (MACI) is a brief self-report psychological measure frequently used in child and adolescent forensic settings to inform decisions regarding treatment and management of troubled adolescents. The MACI has gained considerable recognition because it assesses important areas of adolescent psychological functioning, including clinical syndromes, personality patterns, and expressed concerns. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the factorial structure of the MACI on a juvenile offender population to determine if there were practical ways in which to summarize the test results. These findings indicate that adolescents who come into contact with the law vary considerably with regard to their clinical symptomatology, their personality patterns, and their personal concerns. The study describes as paramount the accurate diagnosis and summary of the clinical picture and awareness of the many developmental factors that might affect these youths' future development. In conclusion, a comprehensive assessment and understanding of associated symptom patterns and personality styles is essential for treatment formulation and implementation. Tables, references
