This public information brochure gives brief and easy-to-read information on crime and Swedish criminal justice policy. It is aimed at elementary and high school students.
Abstract
The brochure addresses several broad questions: (1) why do people commit crime; (2) what is meant by committing a crime; (3) what is crime; and (4) how extensive is crime in Sweden. It discusses the age and social groups that offend the most and the links between drugs and alcohol and crime. Statistics on persons convicted of crime in 1980 are given. In addition, the brochure reviews the parts and functions of the Swedish criminal justice system, discussing in general the types of sanctions that are used for adult and juvenile offenders.
