A PROJECT INVOLVING THE PROVISION OF GROUP HOME SERVICES TO FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA., JUVENILES REFERRED BY THE JUVENILE COURT IS EVALUATED.
Abstract
THE PROJECT PROVIDES THREE POSTDISPOSITIONAL GROUP HOMES AND ONE PREDISPOSITIONAL GROUP HOME. THE HOMES ARE RUN BY MARRIED COUPLES UNDER CONTRACT TO THE COUNTY. THE PROJECT COORDINATOR SCREENS, ORIENTS, TRAINS, AND REGULATES THE HOUSEPARENTS AND PLACES YOUTHS REFERRED BY THE COURT AND BY PROBATION COUNSELORS. MOST OF THE YOUTHS ARE STATUS OFFENDERS, BUT SOME HAVE COMMITED CRIMINAL OFFENSES. MOST STAY IN THE HOMES FOR 4 TO 6 MONTHS. ATHOUGH THE PROJECT GENERALLY IS MEETING ITS OBJECTIVES, THERE HAVE BEEN SUBSTANTIAL PROBLEMS IN REPLACING TERMINATED HOUSEPARENTS AND IN STARTING THE PREDISPOSITIONAL HOME. AS A RESULT OF THESE PROBLEMS, THERE IS A WAITING LIST FOR PLACEMENT. THE PROJECT IS RATED 'GOOD' ON ACHIEVEMENT OF AGENCY GOALS AND 'AVERAGE' ON ACHIEVEMENT OF STATE AND PROGRAM GOALS AND ON PROJECT DIRECTION AND COORDINATION. AN OUTLINE OF THE ORIENTATION PROGRAM FOR NEW HOUSEPARENTS IS INCLUDED. (LKM)
