This document explains the role and activities of the Research and Educational Center of Prisons Organization (RECPO), which was established in 1993 in the Islamic Republic of Iran to train correctional personnel.

Abstract

RECPO tries to explore new and applicable methods for developing prison services and enabling correctional personnel to treat and deal with offenders based on the most up-to-date knowledge. Staff training has been an important issue since the establishment in 1986 of the State Organization for Prisons, Security and Corrective Measures of the Islamic Republic of Iran, called the Prisons Organization (PO). The RECPO is located in a residential area in the west of Tehran. Its main activities are the training of qualified staff, production of special sources concerning prison security, promotion of the level of specific knowledge of the existing period, providing and publishing books, and others. Training courses may last from 1 week to 35 days and may include all personnel. Long-term courses may last 2 years or more and accept 45 participants. Other RECPO activities include educational and scientific lectures, educational seminars, and research. Training participants receive booklets of lessons and complete written examinations.
