THIS ARTICLE TAKES A LOOK AT THE EXISTENCE OF HOME-BASED, OR INTERFAMILY, DELINQUENCY AND THE FACTORS CAUSING IT.
Abstract
THE STUDY EXAMINES THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FAMILY LIVING AND HOME-BASED DELINQUENCY, ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOR COMMITTED AGAINST THE FAMILY UNIT. THE FRAMEWORK OF THE STUDY RELIES ON THE SO-CALLED SOCIAL CONTROL THEORY THAT SAYS A DELINQUENT ACT IS THE CONSEQUENCE OF A RUPTURE OF THE TIES THAT UNITE THE INDIVIDUAL TO SOCIETY. IN THIS CASE THE FOCUS IS ON THE TIES THE YOUTH HAS WITH HIS FAMILY. IT WAS FOUND THAT SUPERVISION AND COMMUNICATION HAVE AN IMMEDIATE IMPACT ON HOME-BASED DELINQUENCY. THERE WAS FOUND TO BE NO CHANGE IN RESULTS WHEN AGE VARIATIONS WERE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT. THE STUDY CONCLUDED, HOWEVER, THAT A VARIETY OF MECHANISMS COME INTO PLAY IN EXPLAINING THE REASONS FOR HOME-BASED DELINQUENCY....BDS
