Edinburgh's Fast Forward Drug Prevention Project works directly with young people in youth clubs to prevent drug misuse and to promote positive alternatives.
Abstract
In addition to outlining the several key stages to establishing the project, this program description identifies recruitment and training efforts, discusses management and staffing issues, and identifies project achievements and problems. The use of the peer group is the major feature of the project which informs young people about both legal and illegal drugs. This project demonstrated that an informal, participative approach to drug education and prevention can work effectively in youth clubs and has several advantages over more traditional approaches to drug prevention. 1 table
