Abstract
"The Evolution of Terrorism Since 9/11" reviews the evolving threat from al Qaeda, the birth of the global Jihadist movement, the rise of affiliates, and the threat of "home-grown violent extremists" (HVEs). "Sovereign Citizens: A Growing domestic Threat to Law Enforcement" reviews the ideology, motivation, and illegal activity of "sovereign citizens," who believe that Federal, State, and local government operate illegally. "Tuesdays with Terry" describes the value of the author's weekly visits with Terrence J. Mangan, a Catholic priest, police officer, college professor, police chief, and FBI Academy instructor. Their conversations address leadership and the challenges facing law enforcement today. "The Hosam Smadi Case: an Example of Success" discusses the detection and case processing of an attempt to bomb Fountain Place, a prominent skyscraper in the heart of Dallas' business district (Texas). "The Radicalization of Islamist Terrorists in the Western World" characterizes the radicalization of extremist Islamists who live in Western countries, including how it is achieved and strategies for countering it. "Human Trafficking" and "Criminal Victimization" review the characteristics of suspected human trafficking incidents for 2008-2010 and summarize the data of the Bureau of Justice Statistics' "Criminal Victimization in the United States, 2008."
