This article presents a brief overview of the FBI National Academy and its recognition throughout the world as a highly qualified education for law enforcement staff/managers/administrators.
Abstract
Located in Quantico, VA, along with the FBI Academy, the FBI National Academy began in 1935 recognizing an opportunity to improve the training and caliber of staff level law enforcement officers on a national basis, with an increased emphasis placed on academics. Today, the academy graduates 4 classes a year with each class composed of approximately 250 students. Some of the most famous functions housed at the Academy include the FBI Hostage Rescue Team and the Behavioral Science Unit. This article presents an overview of the FBI National Academy including, the application process and acceptance criteria, the experience onsite, the cost, and the host of benefits. The FBI National Academy is recognized as the leading school for law enforcement managers. The Academy offers exposure to a broad range of individuals, from new recruits to experienced agents and specialized operations. The intent is that law enforcement agencies will receive a higher quality, more capable employee in return.
