A DISCUSSION OF THE PHILOSOPHY AND ORGANIZATION OF THE TREATMENT PROGRAM, ATTEMPTING TO PROVIDE FEDERAL AND STATE COURTS, PROBATION AUTHORITIES, ADMINISTRATORS, AND OTHERS IN THE FIELD WITH INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROGRAM.
Abstract
THE TREATMENT UNITS AND ADMISSION POLICIES ARE DESCRIBED. LENGTH OF TREATMENT MAY BE FOR THE FULL LENGTH OF THE PRISONER'S SENTENCE, BUT DETERMINED BY HIS RESPONSE TO TREATMENT. TREATMENT BEGINS WITH AN EVALUATION AND OBSERVATION PERIOD. THE FIRST STOP OF POST-EVALUATION TREATMENT IS INVOLVEMENT OF THE PATIENT IN THE INSTITUTIONAL PROGRAM, FOLLOWED BY SPECIALIZED TREATMENT, INCLUDING PSYCHOTHERAPY. FINALLY, PARTICIPATION IN ACTIVITIES WITHIN THE DORMITORY GROUP IS STRESSED. AFTERCARE IS PROVIDED FOLLOWING RELEASE. FURTHER RESEARCH IS CALLED FOR TO DETERMINE WHY SOME PATIENTS ARE MORE RESPONSIVE TO TREATMENT.
