Abstract
The first section outlines Federal judicial power, including judicial review, case or controversy issues, political questions, and Article I courts. Constitutional limits on Congressional allocation of jurisdiction is discussed, followed by an analysis of the choice of law in the Federal system and implied rights of action. Two subsequent chapters examine district court jurisdiction and appellate review. The chapter on Federal habeas corpus incorporates the majority of the new material in this edition, and covers the scope of the writ, the retroactivity problem, and procedural default. The book also treats issues of State sovereign immunity and the 11th Amendment, 42 U.S.C. section 1983, and abstention in civil rights cases. 3 appendixes
