Abstract
THOSE SURVEYED SHOWED GOOD CONCENSUS FOR THE FOLLOWING NEEDS - DIVERSION OF CASES, NOW AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL, TO STATE AND LOCAL SYSTEMS, CLARIFICATION OF FEDERAL AND STATE JURISDICTIONS TO AVOID OVERLAP, FEDERAL GRANT-INAID PROGRAMS TO ASSIST STATES IN DEVELOPING MODERN CORRECTIONAL SYSTEMS, FEDERAL COORDINATION OF CRIMINAL STATISTICS, FEDERAL SUPPORT OF ON-GOING RESEARCH AND DISSEMINATION OF DEVELOPMENTS THROUGH A NATIONAL INFORMATION SERVICE, FEDERAL SPONSORSHIP OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR ALL LEVELS OF CORRECTIONS PERSONNEL, CHANGES IN THE FEDERAL SENTENCING AND PAROLING STATUTES TO ALLOW GREATER FLEXIBILITY. THE REPORT INCLUDES A LISTING OF THE SURVEY RESPONDENTS AND AN OVERVIEW OF THE FEDERAL SYSTEM OF CORRECTIONS TO DATE. BIBLIOGRAPHY.
