SUMMARY OF ORGANIZATIONAL ACTIVITIES INCLUDING STUDIES, PROJECTS, SEMINARS, AND SHORT COURSES.
Abstract
THE REPORT DISCUSSES PROGRAMS SPONSORED BY THE CENTER ON APPELLATE LITIGATION, WITH SPECIFIC STUDIES SUCH AS REORGANIZATION OF THE CIRCUITS, COMPARISON OF OPERATING PROCEDURES OF THE CIRCUITS, AND TRANSCRIPTION OF RECORDS. A SECOND PROGRAM, TRIAL COURT LITIGATION, IS CONCERNED MAINLY WITH TRIAL DELAY. IN THIS RESPECT, STUDIES HAVE FOCUSED ON CALENDARING PRACTICES, INFORMATION SYSTEMS, AND USE OF VIDEOTAPE. THE THREE REMAINING PROGRAMS FOR THE YEAR WERE SENTENCING AND PROBATION, INTER-JUDICIAL AFFAIRS, AND GOVERNANCE OF THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM. THE CENTER SPONSORED NUMEROUS SEMINARS AND SHORT COURSES, TWO OF WHICH WERE FOR NEWLY APPOINTED FEDERAL DISTRICT COURT JUDGES, AND FEDERAL PROBATION OFFICERS.
