THE ROLES AND FUNCTIONS OF THE FEDERAL JUDICIAL CENTER ARE OUTLINED THROUGH DISCUSSIONS OF ITS OBJECTIVES, LISTINGS OF ITS ACTIVITIES, AND COMPARISONS WITH ROLES AND ACTIVITIES OF OTHER FEDERAL JUDICIAL INSTITUTIONS.
Abstract
THE CENTER IS ONE OF FIVE INSTITUTIONS WITHIN THE JUDICIAL BRANCH WHOSE MISSION IS TO WORK TOWARD IMPROVED JUDICIAL ADMINISTRATION IN THE FEDERAL COURTS. THE OTHER FOUR ARE THE SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES, THE JUDICIAL CONFERENCE OF THE UNITED STATES, THE CIRCUIT COUNCILS AND CONFERENCES, AND THE ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES OF THE UNITED STATES COURTS. THE CENTER FUNCTIONS INCLUDE RESEARCH AND STUDY ON PLANNING FOR THE JUDICIARY, TRAINING PERSONNEL OF THE JUDICIAL BRANCH, STUDY AND DEVELOPMENT OF MODERN ADMINISTRATIVE TECHNIQUES AND EQUIPMENT, AND PROPOSING AND STUDYING BASIC CHANGES IN THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM. TO FURTHER CLARIFY THE ROLE OF THE JUDICIAL CENTER, THE RELATIONSHIP OF THE CENTER AND TWO OTHER JUDICIAL INSTITUTIONS - THE ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE AND THE JUDICIAL CONFERENCE COMMITTEES - IS DISCUSSED. FINALLY, A NUMBER OF PROPOSED PROGRAM AREAS AND PROJECTS ARE PRESENTED IN SUMMARY FORM. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
