This report presents statistics and a narrative description of the processing and dispositions of offenders arrested for felonies in the 75 counties of Arkansas during 1976.
Abstract
Using an Offender-Based Transaction Statistics (OBTS) system, the report describes offenders in terms of the types and sequences of criminal justice processes they encounter. Of the 10,201 felony arrests during the year, 2,417 left the system at the law enforcement stage while 3,612 moved into lower court; 3,582 passed directly to circuit court; and 590 were transferred to juvenile authorities. Over 70 percent of the offenders arrested in 1976 ultimately exited the system, while about 7 percent were sent to juvenile authorities, and the rest remained in some aspect of the State's criminal justice system. The tables show the numbers who died, were fugitives, found guilty or acquitted of misdemeanors or felonies, dismissed, pending or remanded to lower court, or deferred. Statistics also cover the offenders' race, age, and sex by offense. Figures and flow charts are included.
