This book provides information on women's and girls' crime, its dimensions, separateness, and relationship to male crime, as well as the situational and social-psychological variables that affect, influence, and deter female crime.
Abstract
Part I focuses on the extent of female crime in the United States as well as its nature and comparison to male crime. Part II examines early and influential theories of female criminality, along with significant factors that relate to female delinquency and crime. Part III explores the criminality and deviance of women offenders, including homicidal women, women and family offenses, incestuous women, prostitution, drug abuse, female white-collar criminals, female rapists, and women as con artists. Part IV addresses the criminality and delinquency of female juveniles, including runaways and prostitutes, their involvement with drugs and alcohol, juvenile thieves, and girls in gangs. Part V provides a comprehensive examination of females in the custody of correctional authorities, including girls in adult correctional institutions and juvenile detention facilities, as well as women in jails and prisons. 48 figures, 33 tables, notes, a 184-item bibliography, and a subject index
