A SOCIOLOGICAL VIEWPOINT EMPHASIZING FENCING OPERATIONS AS ARRANGEMENTS IN AN ORGANIZED CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR SOCIAL SYSTEM.
Abstract
THE BOOK COVERS SOME OF THE HISTORY AND FOLKLORE OF FENCING OPERATIONS AND DESCRIBES DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS OF PROPERTY THEFT PRINCIPALS. TYPES OF FENCING NETWORKS AND THEIR FRONTS ARE ANALYZED IN ADDITION TO THE FINANCIAL ASPECTS OF FENCING TRANSACTIONS SUCH AS PRODUCTS, PRICES, AND PROMOTIONAL CONSIDERATIONS. IN A FINAL CHAPTER, THE TRADITIONAL THEFT GAME, POLICE VERSUS BURGLAR, IS EVALUATED AS DECREASING IN ITS UTILITY. AN EPILOGUE CONTAINS CONCLUSIONS THAT CRIME RESEARCH IS VALUABLE WHEN PURSUED THROUGH OFFICIAL AGENCIES, THAT DIFFERENT ANALYTIC TOOLS MUST BE USED WHEN RESEARCHING THE CRIMINAL RATHER THAN THE CRIME, AND THAT THE WELL-RESPECTED, SUCCESSFUL BUSINESSMAN IS EQUALLY CAPABLE OF CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES. APPENDIX CONTAINS NOTES ON DATA LIMITATIONS....TWH
