Abstract
The police department of Boulder, Colo., developed the manual based on an earlier manual from the police department of San Jose, Calif. The text contains current information about the program and explains which aspects of training need the most emphasis. The information covers methods of performance appraisal, errors to avoid, supervisory procedures, instructional techniques, report writing, termination procedures, techniques for effective interpersonal communications, methods for giving feedback, and motivation. Legal and ethical considerations involved in field training and evaluation programs, assessment and reporting forms, and exercises.
