Abstract
THE ESTABLISHMENT OF FIELD WING, THE CRITERIA AND PROCEDURE FOR SELECTING RESIDENTS, AND THE PHYSICAL FACILITIES ARE OUTLINED. THIS RESEARCH COVERED A NINE MONTH PERIOD. DATA WERE GATHERED ON 97 SUBJECTS; AND INCLUDED INFORMATION ON THE CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE MEN AT THE TIME OF THEIR ARREST AND SOME FAMILY BACKGROUND INFORMATION. INFORMATION WAS OBTAINED FROM THE PROBATION SERVICE, THE POLICE, AND THE MEN THEMSELVES. AMONG THE TOPICS INVESTIGATED IN THIS REPORT ARE THE UTILIZATION OF FIELD WING BY THE COURTS, TYPES OF REMAND FOR WHICH THE HOSTEL WAS USED, CHARACTERISTICS OF THE MEN SENT TO FIELD WING, THE USE OF FIELD WING BY ITS RESIDENTS AND A PROFILE OF MEN WHO CAUSED PROBLEMS AT THE FACILITY.
