COLLECTION OF 27 PAPERS PRESENTED AT A NATIONAL MEETING IN BOSTON (MA), OCTOBER 15-16, 1974, TO EXAMINE CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN AND THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES TO THE PROTECTION OF ABUSED, NEGLECTED AND EXPLOITED CHILDREN.
Abstract
THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER FOCUSES ON THE MAJOR FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO THE PROBLEM OF CHILD MALTREATMENT AND OFFERS THE ELEMENTS OF A PLANNED SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. STRESSED IS THE NEED TO PERFECT A SERVICE CONCEPT AND SYSTEM THAT INTEGRATES THE VARIOUS ASPECTS OF SOCIETAL INTERVENTION ON BEHALF OF CHILDREN. OTHER PAPERS DESCRIBE THE MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH TO THE PROTECTION OF NEGLECTED-ABUSED CHILDREN IN HENNEPIN COUNTY, MINNESOTA, AND DISCUSS THE FINDINGS OF A FIELD STUDY OF NINE PROGRAMS IN HOSPITAL SETTINGS PROVIDING SERVICES IN THE AREA OF IDENTIFICATION AND TREATMENT OF CHILD NEGLECT AND ABUSE. ISSUES IN SERVICE DELIVERY, THE ROLE OF THE JUVENILE OR FAMILY COURT IN NEGLECT AND DEPENDENCY CASES, REALITIES AND FRUSTRATIONS IN CHILD PROTECTION, AND REPORTING LAWS AND THE USE AND ABUSE OF CENTRAL REGISTRIES ARE ALSO EXAMINED. IN ADDITION, SEVERAL PAPERS DETAIL THE EVOLUTION OF FOUR THERAPEUTIC GROUP SERVICE MODELS IN THE OUTREACH SERVICES OF THE MASSACHUSETTS SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO CHILDREN.
