A series of 66 papers examines the dynamics of male violence against women and presents arguments for and examples of female resistance to male violence.
Abstract
Articles on the psychological and physical impact of male violence on women consider sexual assault, including incest, and physical abuse. A number of articles focus on violent male reactions to lesbian consciousness and lifestyles. Other articles address female resistance to male violence, resistance which includes both violence and nonviolence. Nonviolent responses cover the use of law, nonviolent protests against the exploitation and abuse of women, and the use of the media. Articles on violent resistance describe female self-defense training and the use of deadly force in self-defense. The latter discussion considers the legal plight and defense of battered women who kill their batterers. Other articles on resistance pertain to an action proposal for a lesbian revolutionary movement, efforts to counter pornography, a media strategy for feminist artists, and the use of a safe homes model for battered women.
