PAMPHLET DIRECTED AT THE CHICANO EX-FELON OF ARIZONA WHICH EXPLAINS THE PROCESS INVOLVED IN CIVIL RIGHTS RESTORATION.
Abstract
INFORMATION OBTAINED FROM VARIOUS INDIVIDUALS WORKING WITHIN THE AREA OF THE RESTORATION PROCESS OF THE EX-FELON IN ARIZONA IS INCLUDED IN THIS REPORT. INDIVIDUALS INTERVIEWED INCLUDED A SUPERIOR COURT CRIMINAL JUDGE, TWO PROBATION OFFICERS, A CAPTAIN IN THE PHOENIX POLICE DEPARTMENT IN COMMUNITY RELATIONS, AND VARIOUS EX-FELONS. IT IS SUGGESTED THAT THE ONLY OBSTACLE TO RESTORING THE EX-FELON'S RIGHTS IF THE BUREAUCRATIC RED TAPE. IT IS ALSO POINTED OUT, HOWEVER, THAT MOST EX-FELONS DO NOT EVEN APPLY FOR CIVIL RIGHTS RESTORATION. THE STATUTES SUSPENDING CIVIL RIGHTS AND THOSE DEALING WITH RESTORATION OF RIGHTS ARE DISCUSSED. THE AUTHOR SUGGESTS THAT EX-FELONS WOULD BE HELPED IF RESOCIALIZATION WORKSHOPS WERE SET UP IN PRISONS. THE APPENDIX CONTAINS COPIES OF THE VARIOUS FORMS INVOLVED IN THE RIGHTS RESTORATION PROCESS. (THIS PAMPHLET IS PLANNED TO BE DISTRIBUTED AS A BILINGUAL DOCUMENT.)
