METHODS ARE PRESENTED FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF LATENT IMPRESSIONS ON WET OBJECTS WITH POROUS SURFACES.
Abstract
WATER WILL HALT THE MIGRATION OF THE GREASE OF FINGERPRINT IMPRESSIONS, THUS MAKING THEM SUSCEPTIBLE TO DEVELOPMENT BY IRON POWDER APPLIED WITH A MAGNETIC BRUSH. NEWSPAPER THAT HAD BEEN ENCLOSED IN ICE, WET PAPER BAGS, AND BANANA PEELS ALL YIELDED UP USABLE PRINTS. BUT SINCE GREASE DOES MIGRATE ON DRY POROUS SURFACES, IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT THE LATENTS BE DEVELOPED BEFORE THE SURFACE ON WHICH THEY REST DRIES OUT COMPLETELY.
