Abstract
THE SUCCESSFUL ACQUISITION AND IDENTIFICATION OF FINGERPRINTS ARE OFTEN KEY FACTORS IN CRIME SOLUTION, OF PRIMARY IMPORTANCE IS THE QUALITY OF THE FINGERPRINTS ACQUIRED. THIS BOOKLET ON FINGERPRINTING TECHNIQUES IS DESIGNED TO ACQUAINT THE READER WITH THE THEORY OF FINGERPRINT IDENTIFICATION, REASONS WHY FINGERPRINTS MUST BE TAKEN CAREFULLY AND PROPERLY, AND TECHNIQUES THAT SHOULD BE USED IN ORDER TO OBTAIN GOOD PRINTS CONSISTENTLY. INCLUDED IS A DESCRIPTION OF THE MATERIALS NECESSARY FOR FINGERPRINTING, PROPER EMPLOYMENT OF THE EQUIPMENT, AND DETAILS IN FINGERPRINTING A SUBJECT. ILLUSTRATIONS GIVE STEP-BY-STEP PROCEDURES THAT SHOULD PROVE VALUABLE TO THOSE ONLY GENERALLY FAMILIAR WITH THE FIELD. GUIDANCE IS ALSO PROVIDED FOR SITUATIONS THAT ARE UNUSUAL.
