Abstract
Highlights from this report on the number of firearm certificates issued in England and Wales for the period 2010-2011 include the following: as of March 31, 2011, 141,347 firearm certificates had been issued, a slight decrease from the previous 12-month period; while the number of certificates issued decreased, the actual number of firearms covered by the certificates increased; as of March 31, 2011, 564,269 shotgun certificates were issued in England and Wales, a decrease of 3 percent from the previous 12-month period; approximately 1 percent of new applications for firearm certificates and 2 percent of new applications for shotgun certificates were refused for the period April 1, 2010 through March 31, 2011; and a total of 404 firearm certificates were revoked during this period, the highest number since 1992. This report from the UK Statistical Authority presents data on firearm and shotgun certificates issued in England and Wales for the 12-month period ending March 31, 2011. Data for this report were obtained from the National Firearms Licensing Management System (NFLMS), a register of all persons who have applied for, or have been granted, a certificate to possess or acquire a firearm or shotgun. Additional information in the NFLMS includes data on those who have had their certificates revoked or had their application denied, as well as information on people, companies, and dealers that have requested shotgun/firearm certificates. The collection of information for this report is required under the Firearms Acts of 1968 and 1997. Figures and tables
