The firearms instructor must maintain credibility and display such attributes as knowledge, patience, proficiency, and communication skills.
Abstract
Knowledge of the subject of firearms instruction is basic. Patience is necessary because students learn, retain, and interpret information at different rates. Proficiency on the part of the instructor is needed if the student is to have confidence in the method being taught and in the instructional requirements. Proper instructor communication enhances student understanding and performance. These essential attributes are incorporated in a firearms instructor manual that also covers the training environment, range safety, gun cleaning, the care and handling of guns, and basic combat shooting. In addition, the manual teaches how to load and unload a revolver, the proper stance for combat shooting, sight alignment and trigger control, ball and dummy exercise, the use of different guns, reading targets, reflexive shooting, decision shooting, and the use of semiautomatics. The manual is intended to provide the student with the fundamentals of handgun shooting and details on the safe handling and use of firearms. Figures and photographs
