THE RESULTS OF A NEEDS ASSESSMENT CONDUCTED BY AN ARIZONA PRISON IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH PRIORITIES FOR AN EXISTING VOCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAM FOR INMATES ARE PRESENTED.
Abstract
THE NEEDS ASSESSMENT WAS CONDUCTED BY THE CENTRAL ARIZONA COLLEGE/ARIZONA STATE PRISON TRAINING PROGRAM, WHICH IS OPERATED BY THE PINAL COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT. THE ASSESSMENT INSTRUMENT EMPLOYED A MODEL DESIGNED TO ENSURE INPUT FROM ALL GROUPS RELEVANT TO THE TRAINING PROGRAM: STUDENTS; INSTRUCTORS; COLLEGE ADMINISTRATORS; BUSINESSMEN; AND PRISON ADMINISTRATORS. RESPONSES TO THE SURVEY MADE IT POSSIBLE TO ASSESS AND RANK TRAINING PROBLEMS, THUS FORMING A BASIS FOR EVALUATION DESIGN. THE RESULTS OF THE ASSESSMENT ARE DOCUMENTED. AREAS OF CONCERN SHARED BY THE GROUPS ARE POINTED OUT, AS ARE PROBLEMS OF PARTICULAR CONCERN TO EACH GROUP. IT IS NOTED THAT THE GROUPS AGREED QUITE CONSISTENTLY ON THE RELATIVE SEVERITY OF A NUMBER OF CONCERNS RELATED TO THE ADMINISTRATION OF THE TRAINING PROGRAM AND TO THE TRAINING CURRICULUM. SUPPORTING DATA AND A LIST OF REFERENCES ARE INCLUDED, TOGETHER WITH A SCHEMATIC REPRESENTATION OF THE NEEDS OF ASSESSMENT MODEL. (LKM)
