Abstract
The tables included provide statistics on admissions to and separations from correctional facilities, probation and parole services for active cases, and probation and parole services that involve absconders. A total of 7,296 offenders were confined in Wisconsin's correctional facilities for adults on June 30, 1991, an 8.6-percent increase over the 6,717 offenders in confinement on July 1, 1990. Adult male correctional institution populations increased 8.7 percent from 6,408 at the start to 6,963 at the end of fiscal year 1991. Female populations rose from 309 to 333, a 7.8-percent increase over the same time period for the previous year. The average daily population of institutionalized offenders grew steadily from 5,419 in fiscal year 1987 to 7,034 in fiscal year 1991, a 29.8-percent increase during the 5-year period. Offenders supervised in the community under the conditions of probation and parole increased 12 percent, from 32,964 at the start to 36,913 at the end of fiscal year 1991.
