The FIST police suit, used to train Canadian police officers, is a one-piece suit consisting of 12 protective pads that cover the body and protect the wearer from training injuries.
Abstract
The FIST police suit allows students to sharpen their skills and eliminates the possibility of injury. Pads covering the body act as both targets for students and protection for trainers. The FIST police suit has been field tested by law enforcement defense tactics trainers, military special forces personnel and trainers, martial artists, bar bouncers, weightlifters and body builders, and untrained volunteers. Its effectiveness in covering the head, chest, back, groin, buttocks, legs, arms, and shoulders and its ease of use have been demonstrated. The FIST police suit has also proven to be adaptable, applicable to ground fighting, durable, and portable. It allows police officers to practice defensive tactics under conditions more realistic than striking out in the air or hitting an immovable heavy bag. Training with the FIST police suit offers both physical and psychological training advantages. A brief history of modern protective training equipment is provided. 1 photograph
