DIRECTED TOWARDS BOTH POLICE AND THE PUBLIC, THIS FILM DEMONSTRATES BASIC EMERGENCY FIRST AID AND CRISIS MANAGEMENT, OUTLINING THE STEPS TO TAKE TO SAVE THE LIFE OF WOUNDED, BURNED, OR ELECTROCUTED VICTIMS.
Abstract
THE FIRST FEW MOMENTS AFTER THE OCCURRENCE OF A SEVERE INJURY ARE THE MOST CRITICAL TO THE VICTIM'S LIFE; THEREFORE, PERSONS COMING UPON THE SCENE OF AN ACCIDENT MUST BE ABLE TO ACT KNOWLEDGEABLY AND CALMLY TO AID THE INJURED. THIS FILM, IN DEMONSTRATING WHAT TO DO AND WHAT NOT TO DO, COVERS EMERGENCY SITUATIONS SUCH AS THOSE INVOLVING GUNSHOT AND KNIFE WOUNDS. INDIVIDUALS WHO INTERVENE IN SUCH INCIDENTS SHOULD CLEAR AIR PASSAGEWAYS SO THAT THE VICTIM CAN BREATHE, COVER AND APPLY SLIGHT PRESSURE TO WOUNDS, AND, IN THE CASE OF KNIFE WOUNDS, RAISE THE VICTIM'S LEGS TO AID BLOOD CIRCULATION. BESIDES NEEDING CLEAR AIR PASSAGEWAYS, VICTIMS OF EXPLOSIONS AND BURNS REQUIRE APPLICATION OF CLEAN OR WET BANDAGES TO INJURED AREAS AND VICTIMS OF ELECTROCUTION WILL REQUIRE CARDIOPULMONARY RESPIRATION. TECHNIQUES FOR CARDIOPULMONARY RESPIRATION ARE DEPICTED FOR BOTH ADULT AND CHILD VICTIMS. SEVERAL INSTRUCTIONS ARE PERTINENT TO ALL THESE EMERGENCY SITUATIONS: (1) CONTACT THE AUTHORITIES AS SOON AS POSSIBLE; (2) LEAVE EVIDENCE INTACT AND DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE EMBEDDED OR IMPALED OBJECTS; AND (3) AVOID UNNECESSARY CONVERSATION ABOUT THE EXTENT OF THE INJURIES.
