The Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission, Inc. (FCAC) presents standards and accompanying guidelines for the conditions and operations that must be met for a State correctional facility to be accredited.
Abstract
The standards address 22 areas of facility conditions, programs, and services. Management standards pertain to general administration, the existence of a written directive system, fiscal services, personnel, and training. Standards also address facility security and control, order and discipline, and special operations. Standards are specified for admission and classification procedures, and the release of adult inmates. Standards for meeting inmates' physical needs pertain to clothing and bedding, sanitation and hygiene, and food service. In addition, standards are specified for inmate privileges and programs. Standards specifically for direct-supervision jails are included in accreditation standards. Standards for both adult and juvenile inmate housing are also reported. Separate accreditation standards address the admission, classification, and release of juveniles. Remaining standards address medical and pharmacy services, public information, and the safety of the physical plant. Each standard is accompanied by requirements for proof of compliance, assessor guidelines, and accreditation manager notes.
