This report provides a monthly (September 1995) profile of Florida's detention facility inmate populations.
Abstract
Monthly average daily population figures include male, female, adult, and juvenile inmates. The population figures are arranged into felony, misdemeanor, and "other" subcategories. "Other" includes the number of parole violators, State inmates, undocumented aliens, holdings for other jurisdictions, and individuals detained under the Baker (mental health) and Myers (alcoholism) Acts. Within both felony and misdemeanor subcategories, the number of inmates sentenced, held for trial or sentencing, and detained or sentenced for probation violations are listed. One table features the average daily population and incarceration rate in each county; and another table lists the capacity of each county detention facility, including its percentage over or under capacity. A table lists the number and percentage of felony and misdemeanor pretrial inmates at each detention facility. On average, there were 42,230 inmates in Florida's county detention facilities during the month of September 1995. This represents data on 103 of 104 facilities. Fifteen of the 103 reporting facilities had average daily inmate populations that exceeded their Department of Corrections rated capacity. The percentage over capacity ranged from a low of 0.8 percent (Bay County) to a high of 61.5 percent (Washington County jail). 5 tables
