This annual report addresses the progress and accomplishments of the Florida Department of Corrections during fiscal year 1991-92.
Abstract
The theme for this year's report is "Organizing for the 21st Century." The report includes recommendations for improving the delivery of correctional services based on the department's Agency Strategic Plan. The report also highlights innovative ideas and enhancements, such as Broward Correctional Institution's Day Care Center, a new Custody Classification System, an effective Student Internship Program, and enhanced relationships with law enforcement and the judiciary. The accomplishments described in the report reflect the department's "major corporation" approach to management. Recommendations are offered to improve the delivery of correctional services in the State. The recommendations address views and requirements that have become apparent in the areas of policy needs, facilities necessary to remain ahead of inmate population growth, and personnel requirements to ensure optimal effectiveness of departmental staff. Statistics address inmate admissions, inmate status population, inmate releases, community supervision admissions, community supervision population, and community supervision releases. Financial statements and a directory of major correctional facilities and offices are provided.
