The annual report of the Florida Department of Corrections for fiscal year 1979-1980 is presented.
Abstract
The department operates the fourth largest prison system in the country with 8,900 staff in 79 facilities and in probation and parole offices. Over 19,000 inmates and more than 47,000 probationers and parolees receive supervision. Among the year's major accomplishments were the development of a uniform classification system, the reorganization of the Probation and Parole Field Services, the partial funding of the Workhour Formula for Probation and Parole Services in Region II, and the development of the Life Skills Program. Other accomplishments include the provision of tutorial training to functionally illiterate inmates, the development of new commitment forms and a new offense coding manual, and efforts to secure American Correctional Association accreditation for 24 major institutions. The activities of regional offices, information on facilities and probation and parole offices, and the achievements of the correctional industries are also presented. Correctional statistics, financial data, and background information are included. Illustrations, photographs, charts, data tables, and an index are provided.
