THIS REPORT OF FLORIDA'S 1980 PLAN TO REDUCE CRIME AGAINST THE ELDERLY LISTS 20 PRIORITIES FOR IMPLEMENTATION, DISCUSSES GOALS, AND INCLUDES A DEMOGRAPHIC PROFILE OF THE STATE'S ELDERLY.
Abstract
THE PLAN AIMS TO REDUCE FEAR OF CRIME, AS WELL AS CRIME ITSELF, TO EXAMINE THE PROBLEMS OF THE ELDERLY CONCERNING CRIME, AND HAS DEVELOPED PRIORITIES AS A RESULT OF EXAMINING THE PROBLEMS OF THE ELDERLY RELATED TO VICTIMIZATION. THESE PRIORITIES INCLUDE ESTABLISHING FUNDS FOR CRIME PREVENTION PROGRAMS, COMMUNITY OR STATEWIDE CRIME PREVENTION PROGRAMS THEMSELVES, COLLECTING VICTIMIZATION DATA, RESEARCHING CAUSES FOR CRIME AGAINST THE ELDERLY (ESPECIALLY INVOLVING JUVENILES), SECURING THE HOMES OF THE ELDERLY, DEVELOPING MEANS OF HELPING THEM AFTER THEY HAVE BECOME CRIME VICTIMS, DISTRIBUTING CRIME PREVENTION INFORMATION, AND TEACHING THE ELDERLY CRIME PREVENTION TECHNIQUES. EACH PRIORITY IS PRECEDED BY A BRIEF PROBLEM STATEMENT CONTAINING INFORMATION ON THE NATURE AND EXTENT OF THE PROBLEM. THIS IS FOLLOWED BY AN IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY, WHICH IS THE PROPOSED APPROACH TO BE USED IN EXECUTING THE RECOMMENDED PRIORITIES. MANY OF THE OBJECTIVES INVOLVE IMPLEMENTATION BY PRIVATE OR LOCAL AUTHORITIES. THE PRIORITIES ARE RANKED ACCORDING TO THEIR IMPORTANCE CONCERNING THE SEVERITY OF THE PROBLEM, BUT DO NOT INDICATE THE IMPLEMENTATION ORDER. CHARTS, TABLES, AND INFORMATION SOURCES ARE INCLUDED.
