A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE APPLICATIONS AND RESULTS OF THE FORCED-CHOICE PERFORMANCE EVALUATION SYSTEM WHICH WAS TESTED ON A TRIAL BASIS BY THE INDIANAPOLIS POLICE DEPARTMENT.
Abstract
DURING THIS EXPERIMENTAL EVALUATION, THE FORCED-CHOICE EVALUATION INSTURMENT WAS SUPPLEMENTED BY A SUBJECTIVE CATEGORIZATION OF OFFICERS. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE RESULTS WERE NOT AS SATISFACTORY AS ANTICIAPTED. THE SUBJECTIVE PORTIONS OF THE TRIAL WERE NOT AS INCONSISTENT AS HAD BEEN EXPECTED; THE FORCED-CHOICE PORTION FELL INTO THE USUAL BELL-SHAPED CURVE, BUT THE RANGE OF SCORES WAS NOT AS VARIED AS EXPECTED. THE IMPORTANCE OF WELL-TRAININED RATERS AND OF MAINTAINING THE SECURITY OF THE FORCEDCHOICE SCORING KEY ARE DISCUSSED.
